Underneath The Scars (Be Made Whole)

I share this all, based on my own personal experiences… I pray that whoever might read this will feel God’s love, through it all, and turn to Him for their needs to be met.

You may have scars (spiritually, emotionally, mentally and/or physically) that have closed up over time (they haven’t been tampered with). But just because they’re closed up, that doesn’t mean you’ve been fully healed from the experience. You may not ever be the same because of some of the things you’ve experienced…

Soul wounds are kind of like flesh wounds depending on the impact they have on you. You may not ever feel the same, walk the same, talk the same, look the same or even just be who you were before you received that wound.

So what’s underneath those scars?

Maybe you’ve been molested/raped, abused in many different ways, lied to, had your trust broken, been abandoned, lied to or lied on, cheated on, neglected by parents, heart broken, misused, lost loved ones, etc.

All of those things (if you’ve walked in any of those shoes – or possibly all of them) have had a major impact on who you are and how you respond to a lot in life. From experience, I know that just one of those things, alone, can cause a ton of damage to someone’s soul. You may suffer from anxiety, depression, have suicidal thoughts and tendencies, isolate yourself, push people away; however you cope with the pain. Some people probably could say they deal with all those things on a daily basis and feel like there’s no escaping it. But there’s a way out…

Maybe you’ve been suffering from bad memories of past hurts that just don’t seem to leave you. Maybe it’s been years of tears and fears that constantly torment you, pushing you closer and closer to the edge. Or maybe you have unforgiveness and bitterness in your heart, picking at your wounds and reopening them; keeping the grudge going.

Maybe you’ve hidden what you’ve been through for years, but the pain never leaves you. Like, you know that your wounds have a had major effect on who you are today and that you’ve changed in so many ways just to try to adapt or cope with the pain you feel inside, every day. You may even believe that no one cares to know what you’ve been through or going through, so you won’t open about it to get help. But the Truth is; somebody cares and knows that you need a healing for your soul… And He wants to help you.

Maybe it’s not even people who are constantly hurting you, but you have an issue with yourself. You may suffer from guilt, shame and regrets that haunt you daily. God can take all of that away.

You know you’re hurting when you react with a harsh attitude towards certain people, places, and things that you may hear, see or feel – it is evidence that you have been wounded in that area of your life before or it’s something close to it or similar. It just reminds you of what you’ve been through so you’re angry, bitter, hurt, etc. all over again.

2 Timothy 4:5 (NIV) tells us this, “But you, keep your head [maintain your character, keep your composure] in all situations, endure hardship.”

I know that’s a lot easier said than done at times, but when you have unresolved issues, people can unintentionally do something to trigger you (or reopen) your wounds at any moment, and in an instant you begin to replay painful memories, retreat or retaliate on people, and they not even know what they could have done to you or what you’ve been through.

It’s understood that it’s very hard to maintain when you’re in pain. Nobody likes to be in pain and everyone responds to it differently… But it’s never good to release your frustration or anger by taking it out on someone else, even if that person is the cause of your hurt or its your own fault that you’re hurting.

See Romans 12:17-21, 1 Thessalonians 5:15, and 1 Peter 3:9-12 to get a better understanding. Forgive and let it go.

It only hurts you when you [choose to] hold on to the painful memories of the past and not do what it takes to really get rid of the pain. The only reasons you have to hold a grudge to get someone to feel and understand your pain. And I get it, that used to be me. But until you decide to let it all go and let God take care of the matter, you will continue to bleed out “the issues of your heart” and in doing so, you’ll [continue to] hurt yourself and other people. It’s not always obvious, but all you’re doing is crying out for help. You want to be comforted. You want relief. But lashing out and hating people; that’s not going about it in the right way.

It is true that “misery loves company” and “hurting people hurt people”. But you don’t have to live your life in those categories! Because I’ve been through so much, that I can tell you, you can overcome the pain you’re feeling inside and be healed.

Maybe you find yourself trying to suppress the pain… And you can come out of that state as well… In all honesty, it doesn’t do anything but makes matters worse in the end. Whether it be with drugs, alcohol, sex, cutting yourself, or whatever – allow God to take it away and help you be better!

Stop trying to fill the voids and take away the pain in your own strength and just allow Him to touch you. I know it hurts, God knows it hurt… but if you won’t let God touch it, the wound will never be healed and you won’t be made whole.

Things will only get worse and your wounds become infected with unforgiveness and bitterness and soon you’ll be spewing out chaos and strife every moment you get a chance to let someone have it.

God wants to heal you and make you whole, though. All you have to do is apply his word to your situation and let him put the bandage of healing on it. You have to take advantage of what God is longing to grant you FREEDOM!

Underneath your scars is where pain is bound and you are bound to the pain. But you can be free; you can be a prisoner to the pain you have felt for so long, NO MORE!

We all know that healing doesn’t “naturally” happen overnight. But our God is not a God of the natural. He’s a super natural God and can speed up the process of your healing if you are willing!

Check this out: “By His wounds you are HEALED.” 1 Peter 2:24 (NLT).

That passage says, “YOU ARE HEALED”! That’s present tense, right? Okay, so since you YOU ARE HEALED was spoken over you in the past in the word of God, you are supposed to be healed now… You are meant to be healed and made whole today, with nothing missing, nothing broken. You are supposed to have true peace today.

Man, the fact that the Word of God said, “You are healed” and not “You are healing”… And that’s so deep to me, because it tells me that Jesus made us whole way back on the cross.

Then, you have to know that Jesus feels your pain; He can relate to you and He is able to help you overcome what you’re going through, by His grace.

“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15 (NLT)

Believe it or not, Jesus took on everything we could ever go through when it was time for Him to go to the cross for us (1 Peter 2:24). He suffered for a while, but guess what… He overcame it with love, mercy and forgiveness. He had to humble himself to do it though… Now it’s up to you to be an imitator of God (Ephesians 5:1-2).

To be healed is your right. But it’s up to you to cry out to God and receive what’s yours.

My prayer and hope is that you choose healing over hate, bitterness, resentment, etc.

God wants to take it all away.

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, He has identified you as His own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:29-32 (NLT)

For the person who is already walking in healing, I hope that you would take this message to someone who needs to experience healing in their lives. I pray that this might encourage them to begin their healing process and move forward into all God has for them. In Jesus name.
